Hello and welcome to Year One!

Our Team

We have a great staff team in Year One and are lucky to be supported by:

Miss Bouzertit, Mrs Warren and Mrs Platts.

Year One

During Year One pupils will build on the skills they have acquired in the Early Years Foundation Stage to become active and independent learners. We know that phonics and early reading are really important to our future development. We also love to take part in maths challenges and learn about the world around us.

Our Class

In our class, we foster a culture of mutual respect. We work together to cultivate an environment that is rich in opportunities to explore individual interests and support learning. We aim to ensure that learning is both practical and fun. The children are encouraged to explore their talents and are supported to develop their Town Field 10 skills. We are empathetic, kind and considerate and we work together to look after each other and our learning environment. We know that we learn well when work together to feel safe and valued.

PE Lessons

Our PE lessons are on Thursday. Please ensure that your child has a PE consisting of a white t-shirt, black or navy shorts and sensible footwear.

Reading

We ask that pupils bring their reading book and reading diary to school daily. New reading books will be sent home each Friday along with a reading task to support learning that has taken place that week. We ask that you read with your child as much as possible to support their early reading journey. Please remember to sign your child’s reading diary every time they read at home.

We are learning

This term we are learning about the season of Autumn, exploring our school and learning about toys from the past. Our class texts are "Lost and Found" by Oliver Jeffers, and "Nibbles the Book Monster" by Emma Yarlett.
