Some old clothes go to charity shops. They are all laundered and then put on sale. Some old clothes go to developing countries where they are worn again. These are examples of Re-using.

Some old clothes are mechanically chopped up and made into something new, such as underlay for carpets. This is an example of Recycling.

Reducing means not buying as many things - you reduce your demand for goods.

We have been learning about the environment. We are learning about how important it is to recycle our waste. Things that we don't use any more can be re-used or re-cycled. We have learned about the 3 R's.

When you put out your dustbin, but out the green box as well. Put your old clothes in the green box. Save your old ink cartridges and recycle them. Recycle aluminium foil and take-away boxes.

Glass can be recycled for ever and ever. It is collected from bottle banks and taken to a large factory where it is crushed. All the impurities are removed. Metal, plastic and paper is removed. The crushed glass is all melted down and made into new glass. Glass is a resource which we must not waste. If we have milk in glass bottles, the bottles themselves are cleaned and re-used. This is the difference between recycling and reusing. A milk bottle is cleaned and reused. A pop bottle is crushed and recycled.
