 Medicine in school

From time to time, children become unwell and may be prescribed medicine by their doctor.

As a school and in line with recommendations from our school nursing team, we can only administer medicine if it is prescribed 4 times per day.  We would then ask parents to complete paperwork with specific instructions about how and when to administer the medication to your child.

Where a child can administer creams independently, please give the item to the school office to be stored safely during the day and your child can access this when required.  Please do not leave any medication in your child's school bag.

Medicines prescribed 3 times a day can be administered at home before school, after school and before bedtime.  This is again in line with recommendations from our school nursing team.

Should your child require an inhaler, please advise the school office where paperwork will need completion.  Your child should have 1 inhaler to be kept in school at all times (please remember to replace when advised by the class teacher).

Should your child require an epipen for severe allergies, again, please advise the school office in the first instance in order that a record may be taken of your child's specific medical needs.  An epipen should be kept in school at all times.

We have a large number of staff in school who are first aid trained which is renewed every 3 years in accordance with recommendations.

If you wish to discuss any of your child's medical needs in school, please ask to speak with Sarah Fletcher who is our SENCO.
